Bear Republic
RACER 5 IPA
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops?
Your brewer is a hop head! This is a
full bodied beer using American grains.
The goal was to create a base for
showing off the unique floral qualities
of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus
and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid
High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for
bittering, but used heavily as an
aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is
the balance that ties the malt and
bittering hops together. It is a true
specialty ale and is our brewer's
statement on this style. 2004 L.A.

BIG BEAR STOUT ALE
Big Bear, as the name implies, is a
hefty, black, Russian Imperial-style
stout. This strong stout boasts a rich,
caramel sweetness lavished by a robust,
deep-roasted heartiness you can sink
your teeth into. ...Big Bear's bold
flavors are produced using a blend of
Belgian and English roasted barley and
crystal malts. Some unique flavors come
forth in the malt character.
...Louisiana sweet molasses and dark
brown sugar. This dark brew is well
hopped with Chinook and Cascade hops,
which are somewhat, masked by the malt.
This is a balanced strong brew boasting
an A.V.B. of 8.1% that can creep up on
you, "so don't get mauled". It has a dry
roasted quality that masks its' high
alchohol content, so drink responsibly.

XP PALE ALE
This is our interpretation of a classic
pale ale. Our "XP" (exceptional pale)
has a golden color, and is very light
bodied with a noticeable hop aroma and
bittering element that just teases the
hopheads but satisfies the newest of
microbrewed ale drinkers. This beer is
brewed with American Two Row, English
wheat, Belgian, and Dextrin malts. Mix
this with just the right amounts of
Cascade and Centennial hops and you've
got a winner!! 2003 Real Ale

RED ROCKET ALE
The brew of choice for mountain bikers,
and adventurous types worldwide. This
fiery red ale is not for the weak at
heart. It originally started out as a
Scottish red ale but has taken on
flavors of its own. This is a very
complex recipe using five different
grains to achieve its unique flavor. The
caramel malt used is a mixture of
Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds
Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full
bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the
pallet with caramel malts. Centennial
and Cascade hops are used for bittering
and aroma.2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing

(HIGH ALCOHOL BEERS)

|
The SC legislature raised the allowable
alcohol limit on malt beer from 6% to
17.7% ,
paving the way for many new specialty
brews to be made and sold across the
state of South Carolina.
Now
the education of the masses begins! Some
of those styles include:
Strong Scottish Ales
German Bocks, including Helles,
Maibocks,
Dopplebocks, Eisbocks, and Weizenbocks
Russian Imperial Stout
Barleywine (American- and
English-style)
Seasonal brews
Belgian Dubbel, Tripel, Strong
Golden Ale, Saison
English Old and Strong Ales
Also, some more common styles like India
pale ale brewed in non-traditional ways,
such as boiling the wort for a longer
period of time can produce unique
flavors, the higher alcohol content is
more of a byproduct.
A warning to those folks
who have little experience with high
gravity beers...take it easy. These take
some getting used to if you're
accustomed to domestics like Bud &
Miller. The alcohol content can be over
twice as high. You will want to slowly
sip on your Doppelbock, swirling it
around in your glass and savoring the
complex character of the heavenly
nectar. Just remember, don't order a
high gravity beer at the end of a
drinking session, you really want to be
able to remember how good it was! |
